TAP CXM Goes Green

TAP CXM launches employee initiative to eliminate single use coffee cups from the workplace.

Though largely made of paper, disposable coffee cups are lined with plastic polyethylene, which is tightly bonded to the paper so the cups are waterproof and can safely hold liquid.

This plastic lining means that 99% of single use coffee cups are not recyclable and every minute over one million cups end up in landfills globally.

Where single use coffee cups can be recycled, the effort involved is greatly increased by the fact they are contaminated with drink. This means cups cannot be recycled at standard recycling plants and must instead be taken to special facilities – of which there are only three in the whole of the UK.

The reality is that only 0.25% of single use coffee cups will ever be recycled.

TAP London Coffee Cups Initiative

With 2.5 billion single use coffee cups thrown away every year in the UK – enough to wrap around the planet five and a half times, this is leading to a tremendous amount of waste!

In fact, every single use coffee cup that you have used for less than 15 minutes, will actually outlast your time on this earth.

TAP CXM takes its corporate responsibility seriously and believes this is a problem which needs to be tackled. TAP is teaming up with ecoffee cup to provide all staff with an environmentally friendly coffee cup alternative.

The ecoffee cup is made with natural bamboo fibre, which is one of the world’s most sustainable resources. All ecoffee cup bamboo is sourced from Anji County in the Zhejiang province of China, which is one of the world’s oldest sustainably managed forests. The bamboo is completely pesticide free, fast growing and renewable; and every single ecoffee cup is ethically produced.

In order to encourage staff members to use their reusable ecoffee cups as frequently as possible, TAP is offering increased holiday to staff as an incentive for helping to reduce the amount of single use plastic TAP uses as a business; with the ultimate aim of eliminating single use coffee cups from the workplace entirely.

Andrew Haines, TAP CXM’s CEO says

As TAP CXM continues to grow, it is noticeable that we are producing more and more waste. Whilst not all of this is avoidable, there are some simple things we can do to help make a small difference to the environment that we are all socially responsible for looking after. Although sometimes inconvenient, a small bit of effort can make a big difference. Switching to reusable coffee cups is something which is easy for all of us to do, and we are pleased to be able to reward our staff for their commitment to this cause by increasing their annual holiday entitlement as a further incentive towards eliminating single use coffee cups from the TAP office and doing our bit for the planet.
